Edo deputy gov rewards student with N1m for outstanding WASSCE result

The Deputy Governor of Edo, Mr Dennis Idahosa has rewarded a student in the state, Delight Amayaenvbo with a cash prize of N1 million for scoring straight As in the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The Chief Press Secretary, Mr Friday Aghedo, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Benin.

The deputy governor, while presenting the money to Amayaenybo at the  Government House, described the  performance as a testament of hard work, discipline and determination.

He commended the student for making Edo proud, emphasising the need to celebrate outstanding academic performance among young people.

The deputy governor explained that his gesture was to inspire Edo students to take their academics seriously and pursue excellence.

The recognition, according to Idahosa, underscores the commitment of the Gov. Monday Okpebholo-led administration to youth development, education and the promotion of excellence among Edo youths.

He urged students across the state to remain focused on their studies, emphasising how academic excellence could be a door opener to opportunities and contribute to the state’s development.

The father of the student, Charity Amayaenvbo, expressed deep appreciation to the deputy governor for the gesture, describing it as a significant encouragement to his son and the entire family. (NAN)
