Edo: Elele-Uzairue community receives free medical care outreach

By Seyi Odewale
Residents of Elele-Uzairue in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State have benefitted from a one-day free medical outreach organised to improve access to basic healthcare services in the community.
The humanitarian exercise, held at Green Estate, marked the first anniversary of Braimoh Musa Aidorolo’s passing and was organised by BRAI Foundation, a non-profit organisation established in his memory, with support from charitable groups and private individuals.
The outreach provided free eye screening and reading glasses, blood pressure and blood glucose checks, hepatitis B screening, HIV testing and counselling, and free medications.
Medical professionals from Benin, Ekpoma, and Auchi—including doctors, nurses, opticians, an ophthalmologist, and laboratory technologists—volunteered their services.
Despite limited publicity, turnout was high following community-level mobilisation supported by traditional leaders.
Participants were attended to in batches as they arrived, and beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the intervention and called for more regular medical missions.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the foundation, Mr. Hassan Aidorolo, said the outreach reflected the organisation’s commitment to the welfare of Elele-Uzairue residents.
He added that the foundation and the Aidorolo family had previously donated land for a water project by the Benin Owena River Basin Authority to address the community’s water needs.
A total of 128 persons, including men, women and children, received medical attention during the exercise.
In response to community requests, the foundation pledged to organise another outreach in the near future.
Speaking in the local dialect, Angelina, wife of the late Braimoh Aidorolo, thanked participants and supporters, reaffirming the family’s continued commitment to the well-being of the Elele-Uzairue community.
