The PDP in Edo state has said that the state government had only 70 bags of Rice among other items, with a street value of N2.8million that was looted at its warehouse weekend.
State Publicity scribe of the party, Mr Chris Nehikhare in a statement on Sunday, said the bags were leftovers of an estimated 37,000 bags the government received from various sources as Covid-19 palliative in the course of the year.
In a breakdown, he said the government had during the year successfully distributed about 36,000 bags of rice, 2700 bags of Beans, 70,000 cartons of noodles, 37,000 packs of spaghetti, 32,000 packs of sugar, 2000 packs of salt, and 33,000 packs of semolina.
It said the looted items at the warehouse included 70 bags of beans, 2800 cartons of Noodles, 160 packs of spaghetti, 4,000 packs of sugar, and 140 packs of Semolina.
Mr Nehikhare said, “In line with his policy of accountability and transparency, Governor Godwin Obaseki has provided a breakdown of the distribution of the relief materials, making it clear that only 7,320 of about 1.1million relief materials were retained at the government warehouses”.
He said, ” Those who took part in the invasion of the government warehouses have since lamented that there was not much for them to take away from the warehouses unlike in some other states”.
According to Nehikhare, “Nothing is further from the truth that the Edo State government under Governor Godwin Obaseki hid relief materials meant to serve as palliative for the people. Facts are sacred”.
