Edo Govt Says Looted Warehouse Stored Strategic Medical Assets

By Victor Ofure Osehobo,Benin

The Edo State Government has said that the warehouse breached in Benin City, weekend stored strategic medical assets including vaccines, high-end equipment and other supplies.
In a statement, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, said upon receipt of relief materials, there has been an ongoing process of distribution for the past seven months to the vulnerable and poor population to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 crisis in the state.
He said that the government has distributed most of the palliative materials sent to the state and what was stored at the warehouse, was awaiting distribution to mitigate eventualities like the rumored second wave of Covid-19.
“It is unfortunate that critical medical supplies, including vaccines meant for children, were vandalised, which is most condemnable. The other warehouses for food supplies in Edo State are empty as the relief materials that were earlier housed in them have all been distributed”.
Mr Osagie said that it was important to note that in the past few weeks, the government has been able to fall back on the looted strategic reserve in response to the plight of people displaced by flooding in parts of the state.
Meanwhile the PDP in the state has pointed accusing fingers at the APC for inciting members of the public to go and destroy the government property.
Dr. Tony Aziegbemi
Chairman, of the party in a statement added that the  breaching the government warehouse in Medical Stores Road is unacceptable and must be condemned by all.
He said Edo people must ,”not to allow themselves to be used as tools in destroying their city. With the way they voted a few weeks ago, we believe they should join hands with Governor Obaseki to Reset Edo”.
