Edu calls 2026 turning point for national renewal

A former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Betta Edu has described 2026 as a defining year for Nigeria, saying it presents fresh opportunities to deepen national unity and deliver what she termed “audacious restoration” for citizens.
In a New Year message on Wednesday, Edu urged Nigerians to embrace renewed hope, shared responsibility and sustained commitment to nation-building, arguing that recent challenges have strengthened the country’s resilience.
“The year 2026 presents us with a fresh opportunity to consolidate progress, strengthen our institutions, and place people at the heart of governance,” she said. “Together, we can transform our diversity into strength and our aspirations into tangible outcomes.”
She highlighted inclusive growth, social protection, youth empowerment, women’s participation and poverty eradication as priorities, stressing that sustainable development must be people-driven and focused on communities.
Edu reaffirmed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, calling on public servants, the private sector and civil society to collaborate in driving innovation, job creation and improved service delivery.
“Prosperity is most meaningful when it is shared,” she added, urging Nigerians to recommit to compassion, integrity and unity of purpose to ensure no one is left behind.
She concluded by wishing citizens a peaceful and productive New Year, expressing confidence that 2026 would usher in renewed trust, collective action and measurable progress nationwide.
