The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has allegedly apologised to an unnamed Italian national with gifts after invading his hotel room and arresting him along with several others.
According to the man’s lawyer, Akeem Fadun, the Italian was dragged out of his room by EFCC operatives, barely clothed, and driven to their office in Ibadan.
Fadun who shared the story via Facebook wrote: “Daddy we don’t want to ever come back here again! The EFCC menace.
“I received a call from my client – he was visibly shaken by the horrors he just experienced the preceding 24 hrs. He was due to return to Italy – flights booked and bags packed but quickly shuttled to Ibadan to attend to some business that kept him overnight.
“He had come with his wife and 3 kids who knew Italy as home. Around 5 am on Monday the door to his hotel room was thrown open with a loud thud, heavily armed men shouted at them to raise their hands and they were dragged out almost naked along with several others from the hotel and driven to the EFCC head office in Ibadan.

“His phones and other equipment were ransacked for several hours and to no avail. He had pleaded with them that he had needed to take his covid test to enable him and his family to catch their flight but all that fell on deaf ears.
“After all the trauma, he was called into “oga’s” office where he was given 2 bottles of wine, a clock and a card. “We are sorry”.
“He can’t find a flight that can take his family of 4 all at once now due to the summer rush.
“…and yes, we’re going to be suing them.”
