Former Governor Segun Oni and the flag bearer of the Social Democratic Party for the June 18 poll governorship election in Ekiti State, has assured that he would not scrap the 19 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) created by Governor Kayode Fayemi if elected governor.
Oni said he had always shared the view that the local government system must be fortified and brought closer to the populace.
He debunked the rumors being peddling around that he would scrap the LCDAs, saying “it is spurious and illogical.
The Director of Media and Publicity, Segun Oni Movements, Mr. Jackson Adebayo, in a statement, in Ado Ekiti, on Tuesday, said the APC government resorted to peddling lies against Oni after allegedly discovering that it has no viable means of funding for the LCDAs.
Oni, however, said it was very unfortunate that the APC could attach their failure to an innocent person like him, who was an apostle of a workable Local Government administration during his time as a governor.

He said “We want to say that all Ekiti sons and daughters are witnesses to the lasting projects across the rural areas throughout the State during Segun Oni’s short time as the governor of the state during the time the allocation to the local government would not be tampered with as opposed to what is the culture now.
“Segun Oni was the first governor in Nigeria to grant local government autonomy till date; same thing he did for the judiciary and the legislative arm of government. Part of my agenda is to create more LCDAs and resolve any existing disputes over the alleged insincerity of the current government.
