EndSARS: Curfew imminent in Ogun…As Protesters kill DCO, Set Station Ablaze

The peaceful EndSARS protests by youths across Ogun State have taken a dangerous dimension as hoodlums set one of the police formations in the state ablaze.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi few hours ago, lamented that the Atan-Ota,  in Ado Odo Ota Local Government Area of the state was set blaze by suspected hoodlums.

He also added that the miscreants were responsible for the murder of  the Police Divisional Crime Officer, Augustine Ogbeche, a Deputy Superintendent of Police during a mayhem.

Oyeyemi,  also  disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer, Sikiru Olugbenga, a Superintendent of Police whose whereabouts was still unknown was also wounded during the attack on the station.

He also added that a civilian, whose identity was not immediately known, also died in the melee that engulfed the Awori town early in the day.

Also in Abeokuta, the state capital, a group of  miscreants parading to be protesters  attacked  the Obada-Oko Divisional Headquarters and vandalized it.

As a result of this ugly development, there were speculations that the state government may finally declare curfew in order to stem the ugly tide.

In his verified twitter handle, the Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, lamented the development saying the once peaceful protest has been hijacked by hoodlums.

His words: ‘’I’m informed by peaceful protesters that hoodlums have hijacked protests and attacking innocent citizens.  I am pleading with these elements to shun violence and not allow things to degenerate’’, he said on his twitter handle’’.

The Police Commissioner, Edward Ajogun has appealed to the ravaging youths to eschew violence and embrace peace ‘’as violence will do no one good’’.

He also appealed to traditional institutions, parents and other critical stakeholders to prevail on the children and wards  to stop  what he described as carnage and give the government a chance to address the situation.

Ajogun reminded the youths that since the commencement of the protests, the command of the police has been nice  and civil to them’’ even when some of the men were injured and the stations damaged’’.

However, he said if while handling the protests anybody feels offended, we plead understanding and not retaliatory measures including killing and maiming policemen and burning and damaging police stations.

“We will ensure that justice is served any aggrieved person.  Please and please let us continue to embrace peace rather than violence’’, he stated.
