- An octogenarian, Pa Olaye Anthony, the owner of the burnt building housing the Ugbekun Police Station at Upper Sokponba road in Ikpoba Okha local government area of Edo State, has demanded the sum of N40million compensation from the state government.
-
- The 88-year-old Pa Olaye made the demand yesterday at the State Judicial Panel of Inquiry for victims of SARS and related abuses in Benin City.
-
- He made the demand through his Counsel, Blessing Agbeta.
-
- The counsel opined that his client chose to approach the panel for a redress because the building serves as a retirement benefit for him and wondered how he could cope since the house had been burnt.
-
- “I will be happy if the government could help him rebuild the burnt building or alternatively, the government should give him N40 million as compensation. The said amount will compensate for his losses.
-
- “The house in question, is like a retirement benefit for the old man. At the age of 88, that is where he earns money to take care of himself. “We are just begging the panel if they can help us talk to the governor to rebuild the place or in the alternative, compensate him so that he can have a good living pending when the Lord God will call him to glory”, he said.

- Recall that several assets, including police stations were set ablaze by hoodlums disguised as #EndSARS protest in October, 2020.
