Like he did last November, former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, blew hot words on the state of the nation.
He also dropped a hint to those hoping that he would remain silent over national issues that will not be because “my voice should at least be heard, even if minimally.”
Speaking yesterday on Channels TV’s programme, ‘Sunday Politics’, the former governor expressed his backing for President Bola Tinubu.
Fayose disclosed that he worked against his party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the February 25, 2023 election.
Fayose, who is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), revealed that he worked against Atiku ‘100 per cent’ because the ‘PDP has not been fair to me’.
The PDP stalwart said he worked for the victory of the flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, in Ekiti in the last general elections.
“I never worked for PDP during the last election. I cannot work for two people at the same time. The reality is that I worked for Asiwaju (Tinubu). He is a respectable person from the South-West. It is the time of the South,” he said.
According to him, his problems in the PDP got worse for insisting that it was the turn of the South to secure a two-term regime for the southern part of the country.
“Because of that, they suspended me, did a lot, but I stand for the truth,” he said.
Speaking glowingly of President Tinubu, the former Ekiti State helmsman stated, “Let us not deny it, I worked for Asiwaju (Tinubu) during the last election. Some people do not like to be realistic, but I tell you, our children, their future has been stolen.”
On his stewardship in office, Fayose said. “The only thing you can do is to do your best and leave the rest.”
Asked to rate the current Ekiti State governor, Biodun Oyebanji on performance, he said, “Oyebanji is another type of governor I have never seen. He is a fantastic man.
Commenting on the position of election observers, especially the EU group that monitored the 2023 election, and the outcome, he said, “When a thing is not transparent, it affects everybody. Elections? Blame every Nigerian. We have to sit down and discuss how best to make it transparent.”
He added, “I have paid my dues, I have served the country. I have been a governor twice. ‘Patapata’, they will tell you to go away. I will always tell the truth. Even if others had conducted the election, you will still see the same result,” the former Ekiti State helmsman stated.
On the fuel subsidy regime, he said, “Asiwaju is a man of courage; he can face challenges. Asiwaju made decisions that Buhari failed to take. Nigeria’s problem is…Asiwaju is going to fix them. Asiwaju is making the right decisions.”
He said despite his travels, however, he would not maintain silence until the nation got it right.
