Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will face the Ugandan U-20 national team in the quarterfinals of the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations ongoing in Egypt.
Uganda set up a date with the Flying Eagles, seven-time winners of the competition, after finishing as runners-up in Group B.
The Baby Cranes drew goalless with South Sudan yesterday evening at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia to maintain their unbeaten run at the U20 AFCON.
Earlier in the competition, Uganda defeated the Central African Republic 2-1 and held Congo U-20 to a 2-2 draw on matchday two to conclude their group stage campaign with five points.
Uganda will look to make an impression similar to their first appearance at the AFCON tournament in 2021 when they rode to the final. They lost that encounter to Ghana, though.
That performance is not a flash in the pan for the East Africans, who are four-time winners of the CECAFA U-20 Championship.
However, in Nigeria, Uganda meet the team that has been the most successful at the championship.
The Flying Eagles are aiming for an eighth continental title in Egypt. That objective suffered an opening-day hiccup in the 1-0 loss to West African rivals Senegal.
But the Nigerian lads bounced back to beat hosts Egypt on matchday two and Mozambique’s Mambas on Saturday.
The clash between Nigeria and Uganda will kick off at 5 pm on 3rd of March 2023 at the Cairo International Stadium.
The winner of the fixture will claim one of Africa’s four tickets to the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup in Indonesia.
