Following the creation of the FCT Civil Service Commission, workers yesterday rolled out the drums to celebrate the Minister, Nyesom Wike, for liberating them from career stagnation.
The elated workers have continued to pour encomium on the minister for helping them achieve their dream of getting to the peak of their careers.
Before the commendations that trailed the development, the Chairman of the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC), Mr Korede Matilukuro, said the entire staff of the FCTA was elated.
He stated, “The entire staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration seize this moment to thank the leadership of the National Assembly for the passage of the FCT Civil Service Commission Bill which Mr President just approved its full implementation. This has brought hope and boosted the morale of the FCT civil service workforce.”
Addressing the workers yesterday, the Minister of the FCT, Wike, said it was a positive development that workers in the FCTA should have the same opportunity as other civil servants in the country to aspire to the peak of their careers.

He said, “Who will be happy in life if he cannot attain the highest peak of his or her career? If I were a judge, I would reach the Supreme Court. If I am a civil servant, I want to reach the Permanent Secretary level.”
Narrating how he convinced the President to approve the establishment of the commission, Wike told the happy worker, “I’m sure that all of you have lost hope. I told Mr President, you said it is the renewed hope agenda. These people have lost hope, renew their hope.
“Tell them that everything is not lost and the only way you can assure them, is by making them grow to the apex of their career, and Mr President said, I’m not aware of this. Now that I am aware, I will bring back the hope of the civil servants of the FCT.”
He said the President immediately approved the implementation of the 2018 law that was passed by the National Assembly.
Wike continued: “My anger with you people here is that you don’t go on strike on what you should go on strike, you go on strike on irrelevant things. This is one matter you should have told the Nigerian Labour Congress ‘Support us, let’s also go on strike because your growth is curtailed’ but you will abandon it and begin to chase irrelevant things.”
Wike told the workers that the President believes in “Inclusivity and since FCT has been, women are not carried along. Therefore, you now have a Mandate Secretary that will take care of women which we may call Commissioner for Women Affairs.
“So you see how he has used one stone to kill three birds. One for the civil servants, one for the people of Abuja to encourage development, and one for the women. How many people would have done that.”
He assured the workers more things would come, adding, “We are going to bring a lot of innovations because civil servants will now be part of their career promotions and the rest of it.”
