As FCT schools resume for another term, the FCT Administration has declared zero tolerance for bullying, cultism, and all forms of harassment in FCT Schools.
Secretary for Education, Alhaji Sani El- Katuzu made this declaration Monday when he went on random monitoring of schools’ resumption in the FCT and their compliance to COVID 19 protocols.
This warning is coming against the backdrop of incidences in Lagos and Abuja where some students in a boarding facility lost their lives as a result of suspected bullying which resulted in massive outcry and concerns by parents.
El – Katuzu disclosed that the FCT Administration had put measures in place to guard against actions or practices that could jeopardize academic activities in the territory.
“If you listen to me while addressing students, I gave them a message to the rest of them who were not present that any student we catch bullying will be sent out of school.
“And we will make sure that he or she doesn’t get admitted into any school around the FCT where we have control over.
“We operate an administration that has zero-tolerance for bullying, cultism, and harassment of students in our schools,’’ he emphasized.
The Secretary assured that adequate measures had been put in place to guarantee the security of students, teachers, and other staff in all schools across the territory.
“I have seen a lot of security intervention in the schools and I intend to discuss with the FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, on how to intensify security around all our schools.
“This will further safeguard our students, teachers, and the rest of the staff,’’ he said.
On the level of compliance to the COVID-19 protocols, El-Katuzu expressed satisfaction with the compliance in all the schools visited, especially the use of face masks.
He, however, decried the poor attendance in some schools and called on parents and caregivers to release their children and wards to resume school promptly.
