FCTA to demolish illegal structures in Apo Mechanics Village

In a bid to return sanity to the Apo Mechanics Village, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has vowed to demolish all illegal structures in the area.
According to the Coordinator, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Felix Amechi Obuah, the demolition is in tune with the Abuja Master Plan.
Giving the assurance when he paid a working visit to the area, Obuah said the agency would look into all challenges affecting the village.
“The government will partner with the management of the estate to restore sanity in the area,” he said.
Chief Michael Ndubuisi, the Chairman, Apo Mechanics and Auto Spare Parts Dealers Association, and Amalgamated Union of Motor Mechanics and Technicians of Nigeria, took Obuah round the estate for inspection.

While touring the area, the coordinator gave notice of demolition to private structures within the estate found on lands meant for facilities such as schools, hospitals, shopping centers, recreation centers, public toilets, green areas.
He further told the allottees that the FCT Administration could withdraw the letters of Intent which were issued earlier if abused.
The coordinator announced that there is a reward for those who have built in line with government directives as contained in the physical development plan, adding that the government will support any effort aimed at reducing unemployment.
Earlier, the Chairman of the estate, Chief Michael Ndubuisi enumerated some other challenges confronting the estate such as electricity, portable water, and roads, which the Coordinator had promised to present before the FCT Minister.
