FG, Lagos, Ekiti, others mourn Seriki, Nigeria’s Spanish envoy

The Federal Government of Nigeria, yesterday expressed deep sorrow, following the passing of Ambassador Ademola Seriki, in the early hours of Thursday, 15th December, 2022 in Madrid, Spain after a brief illness.

The Spokesperson, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Francisca Omayuli announced the tragic event in a statement in Abuja.

She said, until his death, Ambassador Seriki was Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, with concurrent accreditation as Permanent Representative to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in Spain.

He contributed immensely to strengthening Nigeria’s relations with Spain.

The Spokesperson noted that Ambassador Seriki who had gone the way of all mortal, will be greatly missed.

Late Ambassador Seriki, FG said, was an astute politician and a seasoned administrator who served the country in several capacities.

The Federal Government commiserates with the family of Late Ambassador Seriki and prays that God grants them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

FG concluded that the burial arrangements will be announced by his family.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, also described the death of Nigerian Ambassador to Spain, Demola Seriki, as painful, shocking and a big loss to Lagos State and Nigeria.

He described the late Seriki as a businessman, politician, and public administrator, whose contributions remain indelible in the hearts of residents of Lagos State and Nigerian citizens as a whole.

Sanwo-Olu, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, said the death of Seriki came at a time when his wealth of experience is mostly needed in the country.

He sympathised with President Muhammadu Buhari, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, diplomats, and Nigerians in the Diaspora over the demise of the ambassador.

His Ekiti State counterpart, Mr Biodun Oyebanji expressed condolences on the death of Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, Demola Seriki who passed on yesterday, describing it as unfortunate and painful.

The Governor, in a statement described the news of Seriki’s death as shocking, worrisome and unfortunate; noting that the deceased did not show any sign of illness during their last meeting.

He described the late Ambassador as a highly refined politician, seasoned administrator, patriotic leader who saw politics and public service as avenue to serve and contribute to nation building.

The Governor said it is painful that Seriki who had been extremely committed to the presidential aspiration of the APC National Leader and Presidential flagbearer, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, did not wait to witness the realization of the collective dream.

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has mourned the passing of Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain, Ambassador Ademola Rasaq Seriki.

In a statement, Obaseki described Ambassador Seriki as a kindhearted and compassionate diplomat.

According to him, “It is with a heavy heart that I mourn the passing of Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, Ambassador Ademola Rasaq Seriki (CON), who passed at the age of 63 years. Ambassador Seriki was kindhearted and compassionate with a personality that was affable and endearing.
