Final Four: Sports Minister applauds Zenith Bank’s support to basketball

Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh has hailed Zenith Bank for their support to the development of the game of basketball in the country.

Senator John Enoh made the applaud at the Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League Final Four which ended on Thursday at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos with MFM Basketball team emerging champions for this first time in the history of the League.

The Minister, who was at the venue to watch the championship, noted that Zenith Bank sponsorship of the Premier Women League has contributed hugely to the success of the Nigeria’s women team, D’Tigress in Africa and beyond.

He described the quality of play at the final four as very high which deplicits the abundance of talents in the country and if well harnessed and polished can compete any opposition.

Senator John Enoh assured that the Sports Ministry under his watch will ensure that a conducive environment is provided for sports to flourish in the country.

The Minister also congratulated the new champions of the Nigerian Women’s Basketball Premier League, MFM for determination and hard work which were behind their success.

“I applaud Zenith Bank for their unwavering commitment to the development of basketball in our nation. The ministry remains resolute in it’s efforts to foster a conducive environment for sports to flourish hand-in-hand with private investments.

“We are blessed with abundance of talent, and I’m confident that, scouts and coaches have been closely monitoring these proceedings. I extend my congratulations to MFM Basketball for their inaugural league title. Their journey to victory was filled with determination and hardwork. It’s also heartening to see privately-owned clubs excelling in our sports,” he said.

“In this final four, the level of competition we’ve seen unequivocally demonstrates the significate progress women’s basketball has made.

“The depth of talent we have is extraordinary, providing a strong pool for national team selections. The recent dominance of D’Tigress in Africa doesn’t come as a surprise; it’s a testament of our wealth of talent both locally and abroad. When this kind of talent is available both home and abroad, the best of the best from Nigeria can beat any team, the minister added.
