Fire engulfed a warehouse on Oba Akran Way, Ikeja on Sunday.
The Lagos Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident when he spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Farinloye said the fire consumed the warehouse containing imported drinks and other foreign goods.
He said the fire started at about 8:30 a.m. and that the fire service of an adjoining company worked assiduously to prevent it from spreading to a nearby pharmaceutical company.
“The pharmaceutical company has fire hydrants in its premises which could have assisted greatly, but guards on duty could not access or operate the hydrant,’’ he said.
Farinloye urged Nigerians, especially Lagos residents to be cautious of the delicate dry season that that is susceptible to fires as a result of negligence or unsafe practices.

“The transiting dry season to wet season has always been very critical and dangerous due to negligence or unsafe practices,’’ he noted.
The Lagos State Fire Service deployed seven fire engines to the scene, while those of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency were also on ground with equipment to combat the fire. (NAN)
