
Nigerian actor and folk singer, Jimi Solanke, died on Monday at the age of 81.
Born on July 4, 1942, Solanke relocated to the United States, where he founded a drama group called The Africa Review.
Below are five things you need to know about the late story teller.
1: Solanke began his story telling career in Los Angeles, California. He was described as a “master storyteller” by CNN
2: He was a memeber of the team that produced Wole Soyinka’s Kongi’s Harvest by Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka.
3: Solanke graduated from the University of Ibadan, where he obtained a diploma certificate in drama.

4: Solanke performed at the reopening of the Apollo in Harlem, the United States, in 1979 where he performed a full rendition of ‘The path’ with Mac Donald and a team of other musicians.
5: Solanke joined the Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) and became a popular voice on radio programme, Hello fans.
