Flood deaths: Lagos Commissioner, Tokunbo Wahab condoles with Anambra govt

Lagos Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has condoled with the people of Anambra State over the recent flooding which claimed four lives in the state.

Olawale Ajetunmobi, one of the media aides to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State had called the attention of the commissioner to a post reporting the deaths in Anambra.

Reacting, Wahab noted that the devastation caused by flooding in Nigeria is a reminder of the growing threat posed by climate change, adding that its effect is beyond borders tribes, and creeds.

Describing the development as disturbing, the environment commissioner gave the Anambra government tips on how to conquer the menace of flooding in the state.

He said, “While we cannot control the weather, we can work together to mitigate its impact. Responsible environmental practices, such as proper waste disposal and avoiding constructions in flood plains, are crucial steps in this fight.

“This is the pivot of our messaging; that we understand the challenges of flooding and work together to mitigate it as we continue building resilience infrastructures for the future.”

He prayed for the government and people of the bereaved state to find solace as they mourn the deceased.
