
Nigerians and indeed indigenes of the Industrial and commercial town of Nnewi in Anambra State have been thrown into mourning following the death on Wednesday of a former Minister of Finance Chief Sonny Chu Okongwu.
Okongwu died at 87 years.
He was a renowned Economist by profession and was born on September 23, 1934, in Nnewi North local government area of Anambra State.
He was the Minister of National Planning between 1985-1986 and Minister of Finance between 1986-1990 during the military government of General Ibrahim Babangida.
Chief Okongwu was a graduate of Economic Theory from Boston University, Massachusetts, the United States of America.

From 1961 to 1965, he furthered his studies at Harvard University.
