FRSC organises safety tips programme for students in Badagry

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Badagry Unit Command, on Thursday, organised a safety tips programme for students from four secondary schools.
The schools involved were: Opeyemi Group of Schools, Ibereko Badagry; PJ Group of Schools, Ajara; Frontline Group of Schools; First Cele, Badagry and Government College, Ajara, Badagry.
The Unit Commander, Mr Sulaiman Taiwo, said the programme was aimed at enlightening and educating children more on safety tips on how to use roads without accident.
“This programme is in accordance with our corporate stated goal in order to promote safety within all levels of people.
“In FRSC, we have three arms, they are Regular, Special Marshall and Road Safety Club and the club include those in NYSC, Secondary and Primary Schools.
“We decided to bring in children today being their Day so that they could be educated more on how to use our roads.
“A road is a dangerous place, therefore, concerted efforts must be made to impart into the youth knowledge and understanding of rules of the road.
“To develop skills necessary to avert road traffic crashes, develop positive attitudes toward road usage and inculcate good road culture,” he said.

Taiwo said that most children learn faster than older people; do we hope that these students would go home and teach their parents and neighbours.
Also, Mr Joseph Ajayi, an officer of the corps, who lectured the students taught them how to make use of the pedestrian bridges and walkways.
Ajayi also taught them the 10 commandments of road safety.

NAN reports that there was a quiz competition to test the knowledge of the students of the four schools on safety tips and current affairs.
NAN also reports that students of Frontline Group of Schools, took the first position with 48 marks, while PJ Group of Schools took the second position with 47 marks.
Opeyemi Group of Schools, Ibereko and Government College, Ajara, got 40 and 37 marks to place third and fourth position respectively.
The schools that won the first three positions went home with plaques and highway codes handbooks.
