FUNAAB’s VC Laments Shrines, Illegal Mining on University’s Land

Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Kolawole Salako has lamented the nefarious and illegal activities of land encroachers on the university’s expanse of land.
Salako, spoke while playing host to the Ogun State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Hammed Abodunrin.
He added that the encroachers have established religious sites, shrines as well indulged in illegal mining activities on the land.
However, he reiterated the university’s commitment to protecting the university’s vast expanse of land from illegal activities of encroachers.
While appreciating the commandant for his assistance and support, Salako noted that the corps had brought sanity to its environs.
He requested for more support around the campus and adjoining communities.
Earlier, Abodunrin had explained that the visit was to promote the existing cooperation between both organisations and to tackle any security issues within the university jurisdiction
The commandant stressed the need for capacity building and security consciousness for the young ones.
According to him, there was an urgent need to start giving security lessons to school children aside the moral education that they are being taught.
He highlighted some security tips in the areas of kidnapping, rape, terrorism and suicide, adding that the NCSDC would soon begin security awareness for the populace
Abodunrin also said there was need for the psyche of younger people to be positively changed as regards uniformed men noting that many parents were in the habit of scaring their kids and young ones from them.
