Gov. Bagudu urges politicians to imbibe spirit of justice, tolerance

Gov. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State on Friday urged politicians to borrow a leaf from traditional rulers by imbibing the spirit of justice, tolerance, and fair play.

The governor said this at the coronation and 25th Anniversary of Alhaji Mihammadu Sama’ila Muhammad-Mera on the throne as Emir of Argungu held at the Emir’s palace,

Argungu in Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

“One of the essences of leadership and one of the points that politicians should learn from traditional institutions is that to deliver, you have to hold some things sacrosanct.

“You have to hold leadership, you have to be responsible, you have to ensure that you appreciate justice as leadership is not external to it but an integral part of it.

“I believe that is one of the things that traditional institutions that have succeeded over time to continue to prosper and sources of inspiration and learning for all of us.

“Therefore, we appreciate all that you have been doing, Your Royal Highness.”

Bagudu appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for supporting and identifying with Kebbi State in every occasion as well as what he had been doing to the entire country.

He urged Nigerians to focus on what would unify them rather than what would divide them that would pave way for rapid growth and development of the country.

The governor cited examples of the two largest countries in the world, China and India, which are eight times the size of Nigeria whose unity and togetherness culminated into growth and development.

Responding, the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammad-Mera appreciated all those that contributed toward the success of the occasion.

The Emir, who is also the Vice-Chairman, Kebbi State Council of Chiefs, said: “This is a very important period for all of us, 25 years journey is not an easy task, especially in traditional setting considering the number of people that we started the journey together with.

“These people include parents, traditional council members, district heads, prominent government workers, sons and daughters, well-wishers, leaders, and religious leaders, however, some of them of blessed memories.

“We are most grateful to our creator for blessing us to be alive today; we want to equally appreciate all the aforementioned personalities for their support and contributions that led to peace, progress, and development of the emirate.”

While appreciating all governors that he served under, the emir also lauded the loyalty, support and encouragement he received from his subjects and pleaded for more from all to take the emirate to greater heights. (NAN)
