Gumi’s attack on Wike is connected to Atiku, Rivers group allege

The Concerned Elites of Rivers State have knocked Islamic cleric, Sheikh Gumi over his attack on the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.

ThisNigeria reported that Gumi had called for the sack of Wike, stating that the Minister was unfit to take charge of the FCT due to his religion.

Reacting to Gumi’s statement, convener of the Rivers Elders, Chief Tony C. Okocha stated that the cleric’s call for Wike’s removal was maliciously orchestrated.

Chief Okocha said that Gumi’s hatred for the minister stemmed from his support for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar.

He said “These incisive vituperarations of Gumi as spread by his adherents and ilk (is) an affront on our one nation-hood and so, we conclude that it is treasonable. The president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is at liberty to appoint any Nigeria to any office without consideration for tribe or religion.

“H/E Chief Nyesom Wike is fit to and proper to be appointed as minister of the FCT and having not been found guilty of any infraction whatsoever, but rather works in tandem with the mission assigned to him within the ambits of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and as the appointor, Mr. President remains unshakable. Any call for his sack is therefore maliciously orchestrated, and so, cannot hold waters.

“Sheikh Gumi being an ardent northern chauvinist/jingoist and die-hard supporter of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, (PDP candidate, 2023 elections), holds President Tinubu’s administration in utter derision and can only pander to tissues of lies and unconstructive criticisms “ex nihilo”.

“The same could be concluded as a reason for his morbid hatred for the Hon. Minister of FCT, H/E Chief Nyesom Wike”, they said.
