The Defenders Babes Head Coach, Sunday Ajana, on Saturday said his team would continue to gather more points, praising their excellent performance after they defeated Confluence Queens 31-24.
Ajana told newsmen in Abuja that Defenders Babes recorded their fifth win in Day 10 at the ongoing 2021 Prudent Energy Handball Premier League.
He said his team would continue working hard to gather more points, and ensure it wins the league.
“Right now, my team is third on the table. We have played seven games and there is hope for us.
“We are one of the four best teams in the tournament,’’ he said.
Ajana said that his team had two matches left in the league, against Edo Dynamos on Sunday and Safety Babes on Tuesday.
“I believe that we will win the matches and lift the trophy.
“Our players are here in good spirit and they have performed very well, they did their best and their fans appreciated them for their wonderful performance so far,” he said.
However, Ajana, who is also the head coach of the male team, D:Defenders, added that the performance put up by his teams was of high standards.
“They really impressed me today.
“’We won both team categories; my male team, D: Defenders, defeated their counterparts 26-18 against Plateau Vipers, while the female team defeated Confluence Queens 31-24. I am overwhelmed.
“Although, fatigue is gradually setting in, I wish them good luck in their next match,” he said.
“It’s not over yet but we have two more important matches, we want to play them with determination,” he said.
Other matches played in the female category saw Adorable Angels whip Bayelsa Queens 47 -31.
On Sunday, Defenders Babes will face Edo Dynamos, while Confluence Queens will meet Safety Babes.
Their previous matches, the Defenders Babes won four and lost two, while Confluence Queens lost six and won one.
