Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command has trained 100 guards, employees of private security companies, on skills, security provision and better service delivery.
Speaking with newsmen in Akure on Sunday at the end of the exercise, Dr Hammed Abodunrin, the commandant said the training was part of NSCDC’s mandate.
The NSCDC has the mandate to supervise, licence, monitor, train and registers private guard companies.
“In Ondo State, we have about 4,000 personnel of private security companies. If you add their services with what the NSCDC does, we can get a better secure Ondo State.
“For now, we have trained about 100 personnel of those companies and we shall train other batches until the entire 4,000 personnel are trained,’’ he said.
Abodunrin said those trained are now capable of providing intelligence information, helping members of the public and being more committed at their various workplaces.
He explained that those who benefitted from the training were given skills in disaster management and first aid treatment.
They were given first aid kits so that in their workplaces, they could provide first aid before the arrival of medical personnel.
Abodunrin directed illegal private security outfits to register with the NSCDC immediately and called on those already registered to keep renewing their licences at their expiration.
He warned unregistered private security companies to prepare to face the law.
“It is illegal for anybody to practise without registration. That is why the NSCDC seals offices of illegal private security companies.

“Those hiring the services of private guards companies should verify their legitimacy with the NSCDC before engaging them.
“Members of the public who hire quacks should be wary as damages, when they happen, cannot be reversed,’’ he said.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr Kennedy Obawolu, said the trained would be more active in the discharge of their duties.
“We are not to open and close gates only. The lecture on surveillance and vigilance was very interesting,’’ he said.
Olumide Rasaq, another beneficiary implored the NSCDC to make the training regular
