Anarchy and confusion are now the words amongst residents of Anambra state following the killing of Dr. Chike Akunyili by unknown gunmen.
Until his sudden death, Dr. Chike Akunyili was the husband of the late former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) Professor Dora Akunyili.
It would be recalled that Dora Akunyili died in 2014 after a prolonged battle with cancer.
However, Dr. Chike Akunyili was reported to have been shot dead at Eke Nkpor while on his way to Umuoji Community.
Findings revealed that he had attended a lecture at Sharon Hall, All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha, which was organized by the University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni Association (UNNAA), Onitsha branch, in honor of his late wife, Prof Dora Akunyili.
The source said, “He spoke glowingly about Dora his wife, and made a donation of N500,000 to the association. He was there with his son, Obum who now works with the Anambra State government. We saw them off to the car and it was emotional when Obum hugged him (Chike) tight as both of them separated to join their respective vehicles.”
“Obum was in a white Hilux while the man was in a Prado Jeep. He must have been killed when returning from the function.”

A member of his Agulu community who gave his name as JohnBosco said; “He lost his life at Nkpor Junction, Idemili North Anambra State Tuesday 28th September 2021 when he came to Anambra to receive Award for the Late Amazon, Prof Dora Akunyili.
According to the man, the late Agbalanze (his traditional title) was killed by unknown gunmen. May the Lord console the Akunyili family and Ndi Agulu in general,” the source said.
Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga when contacted failed to answer calls to his GSP phone.
Also, the Commissioner of Police in the state Mr. Tony Olofu refused to pick calls when ThisNigeria called his phone line on Wednesday for confirmation of the incident.
