Tragedy struck on Tuesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital as a student on his way to sit for the West African Examination Council (WAEC) exams was killed by a policeman.
It was gathered that the student’s life was cut short by a stray bullet by a police officer involved in a high-speed chase of a fleeing vehicle along the Gbagi Market Road.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that the WAEC candidate was fatally shot while on a motorcycle with his twin brother.
The victim was immediately rushed to Welfare Hospital by bystanders but was declared dead on arrival.
In a show of outrage and grief, protesters carried the student’s body to the Oyo State Secretariat in an attempt to draw the attention of Governor Seyi Makinde and demand justice.
As of the time of this report, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, had not responded to phone calls or messages seeking comment on the incident.
