A pro-All Progressives Congress group, Ndigbo for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2027 Forum (NDI-ABAT), has declared total support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that Igbo residents in Lagos were ready to align politically with the ruling party.
The group also dismissed reports claiming that some Igbo leaders in Lagos had imposed conditions on the All Progressives Congress (APC) before supporting Tinubu’s re-election bid and Hamzat’s expected governorship ambition.
NDI-ABAT said the alleged demands being circulated in sections of the media did not reflect the position of genuine Igbo residents in Lagos, describing the reports as false and misleading.
The position was contained in a statement issued Monday by the National Coordinator of the group, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and its National Publicity Secretary, Peter Ozoh.
“The Igbos deeply regret not voting for President Tinubu in the 2023 Presidential elections, especially in Lagos State,” the group stated.
According to the forum, the political disagreements between many Igbo voters and the APC under former President Muhammadu Buhari contributed to the voting pattern observed during the 2023 elections.
The group, however, said President Tinubu had since restored confidence among Ndigbo through appointments and infrastructure development projects targeted at the South-East region.
It specifically cited the appointment of Dave Umahi as Minister of Works, describing it as a major political and strategic inclusion of the South-East in the current administration.
“President Tinubu has consistently and emphatically assured Ndigbo of his unwavering commitment to address the long-standing grievances of the Igbo nation,” the statement added.
The organisation further disclosed that it had already established political mobilisation structures across Lagos State’s 57 local government areas and local council development areas, as well as the 376 electoral wards, ahead of the 2027 elections.
As part of its mobilisation efforts, the group said it would host an Igbo Town Hall Meeting in Lagos on July 1, 2026, where Igbo residents are expected to meet directly with Hamzat to discuss the future of the APC in the state.
NDI-ABAT also commended the Federal Government for ongoing infrastructure projects, especially the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, which it described as a transformational economic corridor capable of boosting tourism, commerce and national integration.
“The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Superhighway is not just a road; it is a catalyst for economic prosperity and an enhancer of tourism for all Nigerians,” the group said.
The forum maintained that the Igbo community in Lagos would freely support Tinubu and the APC in 2027, insisting that the President’s policies and appointments had significantly improved relations between the Federal Government and the South-East.
