The Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its commitment to partner with any traditional ruler willing to help in achieving its constructional mandate of protecting lives and property.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), In-charge of Zone 17, Ene Okon, said this during a courtesy visit to his office by the Asiwaju Ndi Igbo of Akure, Chief Ezeorji Umenweke, on Thursday in Akure.
Okon explained that the police had moved from traditional way of policing to embrace community policing, adding that traditional institutions played very major roles in peace of any society.
“Police now account to the people, partner with people, and one of the principal partners in community policing is the traditional institution.
“So, by embracing community policing, the land has been handed over to the people through partnership and accountability.
“I believe that community policing as explained by the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba is on course.
“Police stand to embrace any group that will assist us in the maintenance of law and order and such group will be welcome by the police, I-GP, and Zone 17; because the partnership will help us to help the society and make it worth of living, “he said.
Earlier, the Asiwaju Ndigbo of Akure, said that the visit was on official familiarisation, to the office of the AIG to work in tandem with the police by ensuring peace in Akure and the state at large.

According to him, it is no longer news that our nation is facing a lot of insecurity. Hence, it is now the sole responsibility of all and sundry to ensure the safety of lives and property.
He promised to ensure peaceful coexistence among Igbo, non-Igbo and the host community, saying that he would remain loyal to the laws of the state and the paramount ruler of Akure, Oba Aladelusi Ogunlade, Deji of Akure.
“I, the Asiwaju Ndi Igbo, and my cabinet promise to work hand in hand with you and your intelligent officers to defuse any form of trouble or activities that may cause the breach of peace and security of lives and property of people within our locality.
