The House of Representatives on Tuesday rose from a 4- hour executive session demanding President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency declare a state of emergency in the security sector.
The speaker who read the session’s resolution said it is was to effectively tackle the increasing instability and general insecurity in the country.
All security chiefs, including those of the Armed forces and para-military to be led by the National security adviser, Major General Mounguno have also been summoned by the House of Representatives to explain the way out of the Country’s present predicaments.
The Managing Director of Nigerian COMSAT is joined other security chiefs to brief the House on the Security Situation in the Country.
Titled “Resolutions of the House on the security situation in the country, the lawmakers similarly condemned attacks on Security agents and formations and Sympatises with their families, in addition to all other families and communities that have been victims of banditry, terrorism, and criminal elements in the country, particularly in Ukpo, Ifitedunu, Dunukofia, Geidam LGA, Abagana, IDP Camp in Makurdi Urikpam, Jato-Aka, Police Divisions in the South East, Ehime Mbano, Uzo-Uwani in Enugu State, Uzuakoli, Abia State, Balenga Local Government Area of Gombe State, and parts of Imo and Nationwide.
Accordingly, the House reiterates its commitment to the Security and corporate Existence of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and therefore, agreed to accelerate its engagement with stakeholders on a Special Security Summit to be organized by the House of Representatives.
Similarly, it called on the judiciary to accelerate the prosecution of those awaiting trial due to banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities, as well as urged the appropriate government agency to provide emergency relief to all Communities that have been adversely affected by recent attacks across the country.
The House in the resolution further urged President Buhari to as a matter of urgency, ensure financial autonomy to Local Government Councils.

It charged the Federal Government to ensure the protection of National Infrastructure assets, particularly the Shiroro and Kainji Dams in Niger State with a mandate on all its Security Committees to immediately commence comprehensive audit of all military and paramilitary assets and arms in the Armed Services and revert back to the House within 4 weeks.
Conclusively, it frowned at the number of personnel in the Police and Military, describing it as a far cry from the required number to effectively secure the country and, therefore, demanded immediate recruitment
