The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) are protesting the lingering Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) debacle, poor funding of universities, non-payment of arrears of earned allowance and among other things.
Hence, they have decided to go on strike as soon as schools reopen.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Samson Ugwoke, Chairman, Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the unions lamented over the unpaid minimum wage that universities had been excluded from.
Urging the government to pay the arrears owed them, he said that failure to do that would lead to inevitable strike action when tertiary institutions resume.
“We find this development totally unwholesome. Given the time lag of over a year since it was implemented in other sectors, members of the public would agree that we have been patient enough in the university system,” he explained.
