Pharmacies and Medicine Stores in Ilorin gets Sanitized

PCN closes over 400 medicine stores in Kwara state

499 medicine shops and pharmacies in Ilorin are in trouble with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) for professional misconduct.

Explaining the reason for this action, he says that many premises do not have appropriate storage facilities and this exposes the drugs to harsh environmental factors like high temperature and humidity. He also explains that exposure to direct sunlight may cause photosensitive medicine to degrade thereby making them harmful.

Speaking through the Director of Enforcement, the Registrar, Mr Elijah Mohammed, says that illicit drugs may affect the wellbeing of residents and it is their duty to protect them.

He also states, “A total of 499 premises made up of 30 pharmacies and 469 patent medicine shops were sealed for various offences; some of which include operating without registration with PCN, failure to renew premises licence, dispensing ethical products without the superior of a pharmacist, poor storage and sanitary conditions among others.

“Twelve pharmacies and patent medicine shops were issued compliance directives.”
