Judge orders farmer to sweep court premises for 3 months

An Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada, FCT, on Monday ordered a 35-year-old farmer, Allah Alhassan to sweep the court premises for three months for intimidation.

Alhassan who resides in Gwako village Gwagwalada, FCT, is charged with three counts of criminal breach of trust, cheating and intimidation.

The convict pleaded guilty to the charge and begged for leniency.

The Judge, Sani Umar sentenced the convict to one month of community service for each offence., which would run concurrently.

“The convict will sweep and clear the bushes around the Grade I Area Court for the stipulated time, one month for each offence and this would run concurrently.

“The convict is to pay a compensation of N30,000 to the defendant.

”If the convicts fail to pay the fine, he will serve a jail term of two months each for each of the offences, which would run concurrently”, he ruled.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Abdullahi Tanko told the court that the complainant, Amaka Eze of the Same address reported the matter at the police station on Feb. 21.

Tanko said that on Aug. 15, 2021, the defendant collected the complainant’s water drum worth N30,000 on a daily rent of N200

He said that when the complainant asked for her water drum back, the convict chased her with a cutlass.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 312, 322 and 397 of the Penal Code.
