The nationwide strike called by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) continued in Rivers State, with the courts remaining closed to litigants and members of the public.
The state’s chapter Chairman of JUSUN, Mr. Tony Wachukwu, said the strike would continue till their demand for financial autonomy for the judiciary is granted.
Wachukwu said judiciary workers in Rivers State also have their own peculiar demands, which include the unfreezing of promotions and yearly increment payments to judiciary workers.

Wachukwu said since 2012, no worker in the judiciary has been promoted. He said though court workers were considered essential service workers, such status is not reflected in their welfare package.
