Alleged bribery: Why investigation into Abba Kyari must not be limited – Falana

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria and human rights activist, Femi Falana has urged the Federal Government to redeem the image of Nigeria by being transparent with the alleged bribery case against a Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari.

Falana made the call during a chat on Arise News monitored by THIS NIGERIA on Friday.

According to the United States Department of Justice in California, Kyari had been fingered by alleged internet fraudster, Ramon Abass a.k.a Hushpuppi, to have been bribed to threaten and silence a co-conspirator in a $1.1m scam against a Qatari businessman.

However, Kyari denied the allegation in a statement issued on Thursday and said that he only assisted Hushpuppi in getting native wear from his tailor in Nigeria.

Reacting to the situation, Falana said that the probe into Abba Kyari must not be limited to the allegation by the US court.

“I am appealing to the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba not to limit the investigation into Abba Kyari to the bribery allegation. There are other serious allegations against him that include extortion of huge sums of money, extrajudicial killings of suspects, and other crimes.

“The Nigeria Police need to submit Kyari for a full investigation. These offenses were committed in Nigeria. The Federal Government should stop allowing other countries to prosecute criminal offenders on our behalf. This is a chance for them to redeem the image of Nigeria by being transparent with the events surrounding the case,” he said.
