Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has declared that the outcome of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency bye-election is a clear indication of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s growing strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor said the massive voter turnout and peaceful conduct of the poll reflected the confidence of the electorate in the APC and its programmes.
“The outcome of this election is a litmus test for the APC’s anticipated victory in the 2027 general elections,” Yusuf said, adding that the exercise demonstrated the party’s continued acceptance among the people of Kano State.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor described the election as free, fair and credible, noting that it reflected the genuine wishes of the electorate.
He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful, orderly and transparent process.
“The conduct and outcome of the election have further strengthened public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process,” he stated.
Governor Yusuf congratulated the APC candidate on his victory and urged him to justify the confidence reposed in him by providing effective and people-centred representation.
He said the result underscored APC’s position as the dominant political force in Kano State and showed that the party remained well placed to secure future electoral victories.
The governor also took a swipe at the New Democratic Congress (NDC) for failing to field a candidate in the contest, describing the party as a political movement without a visible grassroots presence.
According to him, the opposition party stayed away from the race because it knew it lacked the support base required to challenge the APC.
“The decision not to participate was borne out of the fear of inevitable defeat,” Yusuf said.
He maintained that the bye-election exposed the weakness of opposition elements in the state while highlighting the increasing support for the APC among the electorate.
The governor reassured residents of his administration’s commitment to delivering more developmental projects and programmes across Kano State.
Yusuf also congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, on what he described as the party’s successful performance in the recent bye-elections conducted across the country.
