Kogi PDP chieftain, Austin Okai, speaks from detention

Kogi-born political activist and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Austin Okai, has thanked Nigerians for speaking up for him.
Okai was arrested on Wednesday morning by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) allegedly on the directive of Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Heavily armed security operatives took Okai away from his residence in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Recently, Okai charged Ododo to curb what he described as the “unchecked and excessive powers” of the state’s Accountant General, Habiba Onumoko.
Okai accused the accountant general of overstepping her constitutional role, alleging financial mismanagement and undue interference in governance.
He said the accountant generals “cabal has taken over” Ododo’s administration.
Since his arrest, torrents of Nigerians, including activist politician, Omoyele Sowore, have called for his release.
Speaking through popular Kogi-born activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, Okai thanked his supporters.
In a post made on Facebook, Deji wrote, “I have just seen our client Austin Okai in the custody of the DSS. He extends his gratitude to all Nigerians for speaking up for him. Special thanks to the leadership of DSS for their professionalism so far in this matter.”
