Lagos assures residents of transparency in allocating housing estate schemes

The Lagos State Government has assured residents of the state-owned housing estates of transparency and openness in allocations of homes.
This was disclosed by the state Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, during a stakeholder’s forum organised for residents of the state government-owned housing estates in the Ikorodu division.
The events brought together residents, government officials, estate facility managers, and other stakeholders to discuss issues and explore solutions.
Akinderu-Fatai, in a statement by the Chief Public Affairs Officer in the ministry, Adesile Rufai, said the forum was organised to enlighten the residents on the workings of government and also direct the residents to approach the facility manager in case of any complaint or observation on any issues that concern their estate.
The Commissioner, who was represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Abdulhafis Toriola, stressed the need for residents to comply with all guidelines as stated in their letter of allocation as this will serve as a guide to them.
He also advised the residents to pay their Annual Service Charge, Sinking fund, Special levy, and Insurance premium promptly as at when due, by the Deed of Memorandum of Understanding signed by both parties.
However, failure to comply will lead to revocation of the home unit allocation.
Akinderu-Fatai noted that the stakeholders’ forum was not to witch-hunt any resident but to enlighten them and remind them of their responsibility as a homeowner in the Estate.
He said, “We are thrilled with the success of this forum and the commitment shown by all stakeholders, we look forward to continued collaboration and improvement in the living conditions of our housing estates.
“Your feedback on the issue is germane to the development and growth of the estate and it will be highly welcome as the Ministry is poised to serve its residence/allottee,” he said.
However, the Permanent Secretary, Toriola added that the crucial goal of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration was to develop a conducive Estate with proper infrastructure, comparable to modern cities and habitable for Lagosians.
