LASG seals Ojuwole, Daleko, Awolowo markets

The Lagos state government, on Sunday morning, sealed five markets in Mushin and Odi-Olowo local council areas over environmental infractions by the traders.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, on his X handle, said the markets were sealed for contravention of the provisions of 2017 Environmental Management Protection Law.
The sealed markets were; Awolowo Ultra Modern Market Ojuwoye, Ojuwoye Market Odi-Olowo, Mushin Main Market, Daleko Market, and Odo Ashimowu Market.
He said the markets were shut after several warnings, alleging that the traders had failed to keep their markets clean and hygienic.
According to him, the markets would remain sealed until the traders and market associations meet the conditions set by the government, which include payment of fines, removal of waste, and restoration of order.
He also appealed to the public to report any environmental nuisance or violation to the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources or the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA).
