LASTMA impounds 30 vehicles for traffic offences

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has impounded 30 vehicles for various traffic offences, including illegal parking and driving unpainted vehicles in Apongbon and Glover Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The enforcement operation, which started on Wednesday, was carried out in compliance with the directive of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Mr Sola Giwa, who had warned both private and commercial bus drivers to stop indiscriminate parking and obey traffic rules.
According to the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr Taofiq Adebayo, the impounded vehicles were causing gridlock and inconveniencing other road users.
He said the owners and drivers of the vehicles would be charged to the Lagos State Mobile Court for violating the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
He added that LASTMA would continue to ensure the free flow of traffic by scaling up its enforcement and clampdown on erring motorists.
“”It was nauseating seeing these private and commercial bus drivers constituting public nuisance by parking at free will thereby causing avoidable gridlock and inconveniencing to other motorists and road users.
“We will continue to ensure free flow of traffic by scaling up our enforcement and clampdown on these stubborn private and commercial bus drivers,” he said
