
A Shari’a court sitting in Rigasa, Kaduna, on Tuesday, sentenced one Abubakar Garba, to six months jail term for breach of trust and cheating regarding a land sale.
The court heard that Garba had received part payment on the land from one Maryam Muhammad, but reneged on the deal, sold off the property to someone else. and refused to refund Muhammad her initial deposit.
The Judge, Malam Salisu Abubakar-Tureta, made the ruling after the accused pleaded guilty to the offenses.
The judge, however, gave Garba an option of N10,000 fine and ordered him to refund N121,000, being the money paid on the land, to Muhammad.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Sambo Maigari told the court that the complainant had bought a plot of land from the accused in 2013, at an agreed price of N300,000.

Maigari said Muhammad was only able to pay a deposit of N121,000 and promised to balance the remaining N79,000.
“She heard that the land was later sold to someone else, and therefore demanded a refund of her money, but to no avail.
“We pray the court to assist us to retrieve the money,” the prosecutor said.
