Many dead as robbers attack banks in Benue

Armed robbers, on Friday, invaded banks in Otukpo, Benue State, killing at least five people, including police officers, and injuring several others.

It was gathered that the robbers attacked multiple banks in the town, carting away huge sums of money.

Witnesses said the robbers arrived in two Hilux vehicles and one car around 10 a.m. and headed straight to a police station, where they opened fire on the officers on duty.

They then proceeded to raid three banks: United Bank for Africa (UBA), Zenith Bank, and First Bank Plc.

In a video sighted by ThisNigeria, at least 5 bodies were seen scattered all over the scene.

The police spokesperson, DSP Catherine Anene, said the command received a distress call from Otukpo and mobilized operatives to the scene but the robbers had fled before the arrival of the police.

She appealed to the public to provide useful information that could lead to the arrest of the culprits.
