The Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL) has described President Bola Tinubu’s recently established National Research Fund as a panacea for development.
This came as the College of Fellows and Members of NAL indicated their preparedness to work with all stakeholders to produce practical and skilled nationally relevant and globally competitive citizens.
These were contained in a statement signed by the President of NAL, Sola Akinrinade.
The statement reads in part: “NAL also received with delight, the announcement by Mr. President of establishing a National Research Fund. We are confident that, properly implemented, the Fund will help to accelerate development in all its ramifications in the country.
“As an Academy, we are prepared to work with all stakeholders to produce practical and skilled nationally relevant and globally competitive citizens. With financial support from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), we have recently worked with the Nigerian.
Academy of Science to develop a framework for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) Education in this country. With the growing understanding of the need to assist the next generation of Nigerians in acquiring well-rounded skills for an innovative and creative future, NAL is ready to contribute to national development in this regard.
The apex body of all Humanities scholars and scholars in Nigeria also celebrated President Tinubu on the conferment on him as the Grand Patron of Science by the Nigerian Academy of Science yesterday.
The body said Tinubu deserves the award, which acknowledges the president’s sterling and astute leadership qualities and his readiness to work with academia in our progressive search for sustainable development.
The body said, “This timely award is an acknowledgment of the sterling and astute leadership qualities of Mr. President and his readiness to work with the academia in our progressive search for sustainable development.
“It is also a recognition of the current administration’s desire to firmly establish an all-encompassing approach to leveraging Nigerians’ capacity to innovate and create solutions to the nation’s multiple development challenges.
“Thus, we join the Nigerian Academy of Science in identifying with the president in rebuilding this country through the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We wish the President and the Federal Government more success in the years ahead.”
