The National Association of Seadogs (NAS), Southern Ontario Chapter, also known as the Aqua Kanata Deck, has highlighted the growing social neglect of homeless individuals through compassionate outreach in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.
The group donated warm blankets and socks to residents at the YWCA MacNab Street Shelter and Mission Services on King Street East, as part of its ongoing Public Awareness Campaign against Drug Abuse and Homelessness.
Speaking during the donation, the Cap’n of the Aqua Kanata Deck, Mr Ene Edem, said the gesture was not just a humanitarian token but a call to action.
“Our goal is to extend warmth, dignity, and hope,” he declared. “Small acts of kindness can help build trust and connection, which are vital to emotional well-being.”
Edem emphasised that homelessness transcends the lack of shelter; it strikes at the core of mental health and social stability.
“When people lose a home, they often lose a sense of belonging and self-worth. That is why even something as simple as a blanket or clean socks can ease stress, restore comfort, and remind them they are not forgotten,” he added.
The NAS team, comprising Ogulogu Obaide, Abraham Orhoevwri, Emmanuel Ogbebor, Eric Adegoroye, and Obiora Azuatalam, visited the shelters where they interacted with residents and staff, highlighting the group’s longstanding tradition of community service and social advocacy.
In response, Lidia Siino, Corporate and Community Engagement Coordinator at YWCA Hamilton, lauded Seadogs’ compassion.
“Your donation of cold-weather supplies will make a real difference for those experiencing homelessness this season,” she said. “Your generosity reflects the very compassion and care we deeply value at YWCA Hamilton.”
The initiative, which forms part of the Association’s annual social responsibility drive, underscores the group’s belief that societal well-being requires shared empathy and sustained community action.
