The Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, made good its threat to begin nationwide strike action over the continued demonstration by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, by commencing a protest today.
The protest which is led by the leadership of the association commenced from the Unity House Headquarters of the Association in the Central Business District/ Area of Abuja the nation’s capital.
It is gathered that the NBA protest is in sympathy with the judiciary workers union who had in the weeks commenced a protest warning over demands of full autonomy of the courts and the judiciary arm of government from the state’s governors.
The NBA is expected to formerly forward a protest letter to the National Assembly where the demonstration will end.
Meanwhile, the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has commenced its nationwide protest over the financial autonomy of the Judiciary.
Comrade Jimoh Musa Alonge, National Treasurer of the union, who is leading the protest, noted that it was a mission accomplished as they would not retreat or surrender until both financial and political autonomy is given to the Judiciary.
He told newsmen at the Court of Appeal, in the 3-arms -zone of Abuja, starting- point of the demonstration which will terminate at the National assembly also in the zone, that the arm of government has been plagued with problems arising from its stranglehold by the state governors who are fighting back and refusing autonomy for the Judiciary.

Alonge argued that reprieve and peace can only return if that autonomy is returned.
Recall that the union had on April 6 shut down all courts in the country to protest the refusal of governors to comply with the constitutional provisions for financial autonomy of the Judiciary.
