NBC instructs radio, TV stations not to air Eedris Abdulkareem’s dissing Tinubu

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has instructed radio and television stations in Nigeria not to air singer Eedris Abdulkareem’s new protest song, ‘Tell Your Papa.’

In a memo signed by the commission’s Coordinating Director of Broadcast Monitoring, Susan Obi on Thursday, the song was described as inappropriate and offensive.

The memo reads, “The National Broadcasting Commission has identified ‘Tell Your Papa’ song by Eedris Abdulkareem, currently trending on social media, as content deemed inappropriate for broadcast following its objectionable nature.

“It is therefore classified as Not To Be Broadcast, NTBB, as it violates Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code. The content is considered inappropriate, offensive, or in breach of public decency.”

The anti-government song, which was released earlier this week, has sparked debate online due to its critical stance on Nigeria’s leadership and economic conditions.

The song directly addresses President Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu, urging him to speak to his father about the hardships faced by Nigerians.
