NCAA’s Achimugu wins African brands personality award

The Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Michael Achimugu, has been honoured with the 2026/2027 African Brands Personality Award for his contributions to consumer protection and passenger rights advocacy in Nigeria’s aviation sector.

Achimugu disclosed this in a post on his X handle on Tuesday, a day after receiving the award from the African Brands team led by Godwin Enesi Chatta at his office in Abuja.

According to him, the recognition was in appreciation of his efforts in advancing consumer protection and promoting passengers’ rights in the aviation industry.

Speaking after receiving the award on Monday, Achimugu said the statutory responsibility of his directorate includes resolving passengers’ complaints arising from flight delays, cancellations, baggage issues and ticket refunds.

He stated that the NCAA had, under his leadership, recorded its highest volume of ticket refunds, compensation payments and regulatory compliance.

The NCAA director added that the Authority achieved a 65 per cent case resolution rate in 2025, representing a 10 percentage-point increase from the previous year, expressing optimism that it would attain a 90 per cent resolution rate before the end of 2026.

Achimugu dedicated the award to his children, members of his team and the leadership of the NCAA, while urging air travellers to familiarise themselves with their rights as passengers.
