Nigeria Diaspora & Friends in Florida Support #ENDSARS

A coalition of Nigerians in Diaspora across Florida have called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to listen to the voice of wisdom as professed by the Nigeria youths #ENDSARS protesters and prioritize the complete overhaul of the security architecture of the country – both civil law enforcement and military.

According to its convener, Emma Adoghe, the dissolution of police tactical units – SARS and the knee-jerk declaration of police reform as a palliative shows the administration misread the handwriting-on-the-wall.

The message at the spearhead of #ENDSARS protests is for the repositioning of Nigeria’s security architecture in its totality so that people can live and work in peace, as a starter to other pressing national issues. Security is the foundation for the bricks of nation-building, and the primary duty of any government. Without security, a Hobbesian state emerges where life mirrors anarchy.

Firstly, older generation leaders must discard the subsisting “know-it-all” disposition to engage the younger generation – the very same protesters, and security experts to craft lasting solutions.

This represents a crucial step towards reengineering the nation security architecture. Nigeria needs a modern police force that is trained, salaried and equipped to globally accepted standards for effective policing devoid of the twin evils of bribery and brutality.

A stitch in time saves nine.
