Former Minister for Justice, Prince Bola Ajibola is dead

Former Judge of the International Court of Justice, Hague, Netherlands, Prince Abdul-Jabar Bola Ajibola has passed away.

Ajibola, who was also the founder of Crescent University, died on Sunday, April 9.

Leader of the Academy of Islamic Propagation (ACADIP), Mallam Yusuf Adepoju confirmed Ajibola’s passing in a terse statement on Sunday.

Owo Catholic Church reopens 10 months after gunmen attack

St. Francis Catholic Church, Owaluwa, Owo in Ondo State on Sunday reopened for service ten months after the deadly attack on the church by gunmen.

The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that over 40 worshippers died in the June 5, 2022 attack by gunmen.

Worshippers who defied fears to attend Easter Sunday service, expressed pleasure for the reopening of the church.

IGP orders posting, redeployment of AIGs

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Usman Baba, has ordered the posting and redeployment of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to departments, commands, and formations in line with his manpower development policy of fitting the right persons into appropriate roles.

This is contained in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Saturday in Abuja.

Adejobi said the redeployment was in line with the I-GP’s mandate and strategies to strengthen the operational structures of commands, departments and formations.

Boy burnt to death for stealing android phone in Calabar

A Boy, 22, was on Sunday evening set ablaze by an angry mob for allegedly stealing an Android mobile phone at Atimbo area of Calabar Municipality Local Government Area (LGA) of Cross River.

An eye witness who narrated the incident, said the boy identified as Eyo, has been known for petty stealing around the area and have been warned severally to desist from such.

The witness, who pleaded anonymity, said that the boy committed the offence on Saturday and disappeared into thin air only to reappear on Sunday.

Benue Massacre: Attackers must be found, dealt with swiftly, Buhari insists

President Muhammadu Buhari, in the course of the week, condemned the use of terrorism as a tool in inter communal conflicts, urging that the attackers of innocent citizens in Benue must be found and dealt with swiftly under the law.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Nigerian leader gave the order while condemning the recent bout of killings in Benue, in which tens of people were killed in Umogidi community, Entekpa-Adoka in Otukpo Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

JAMB fixes new date for 2023 UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a new date for the commencement of the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME).

The board disclosed this in a statement signed by its Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin in Abuja on Sunday.

Benjamin said the UTME which was earlier scheduled to commence on April 29, would now start on April 25, 2023.

Suspected Fulani kidnappers arrested in Osun

Men of the Osun State Police Command have arrested three Fulani suspected kidnapers, Barri Galadima, Muhammadu Abdullahi and Hussain Abdullah.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Kehinde Longe also confirmed the arrest of the suspects.

The suspects were arrested by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad in their hideout at a remote village in Oyo State.

Chukwueze’s teammate files complaint with police after alleged assault by Madrid player

Villarreal midfielder Alex Baena has filed a complaint with police after he was allegedly assaulted by Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde following Saturday’s LaLiga match.

Spain Under-21 international Baena was reportedly involved in a heated confrontation with Valverde shortly after the game.

Police arrest another Kuje prison escapee in Nassarawa

The police command in Nassarawa State has arrested Salisu Buhari, one of the inmates of Kuje Correctional Centre who escaped from the facility during the July 2022 jail break.

This is contained in a statement signed by DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) on Sunday in Lafia.

Fire broke out at the wedding of an unidentified couple in Lagos on Saturday.

In a video shared online, people could be seen trying to put out the fire which was burning the decorative fabrics in the hall.
